Welcome to Recipes to Remember 1936. I have selected 1936 to differentiate myself and honor my late grandmother, Mimi. She was always in the kitchen cooking for her family and my grandfather, Pop. Mimi excelled at cooking. She could cook anything, using a recipe or just making it up herself.
Mimi went through a period where she made and decorated cakes. There was a superb basket weave cake she made one Easter. She also made many themed birthday cakes each year for her grandchildren.
My favorite recipe she made was Vidalia Deep Dish. It has heavy whipping cream, rice, and of course vidalia onions. It was topped with paprika. Such a delectable dish! I’ll share it. I found her copy of the recipe recently in the 25 or so cookbooks I rediscovered after she passed.
So have your pens ready to take down the recipes I will share. I hope you develop special memories around the recipes as I have over the years. Once again, welcome to Recipes to Remember 1936.
